Measurements of projectile-like-fragment--target-like-fragment coincidences in the reaction {sup 40}Ar+{sup 27}Al are simulated using a Monte Carlo version of the random walk model. The predictions of the model are compared with recent measurements. The good agreement between predictions and data obtained here and elsewhere indicates that the underlying physical picture constitutes a viable model of the reaction mechanism.
