Clip retention of a split-stream fuel injector to a fuel rail cup including circumferential locator

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5552107
In an internal combustion engine fuel injection system having a fuel rail through which pressurized liquid fuel is supplied to an electrically controlled fuel injector assembled to the fuel rail, the assembly of the fuel injector to the fuel rail comprising a cup which is on the fuel rail and within which a fuel inlet at one axial end of the injector is sealedly disposed, and a one-piece retention clip mechanically engaging both the cup and the fuel injector for mechanical retention of the latter on the former. The improvement comprises means for also circumferentially locating the clip to the cup at assembly of the injector to the cup, and hence circumferentially locating the injector to the cup, the means of the improvement comprising a radial key on the lip, the key coacting with the first and second side wall portions of the clip to circumferentially locate the cup to the injector.
