Josephson junction mm-wave mixer without matching structure

This paper describes a Josephson junction mixer at 8-mm wavelength without matching structure. With a Nb point contact operating at 4.2 K, a single-sideband mixer noise temperature T/sub M/approx.100 K and a conversion efficiency etaapprox.0.8 were measured by the Y-factor method of hot/cold noise. The mechanism of the mixing noise is also discussed.
