Optical methods in composites; Proceedings of the SEM Fall Conference on Experimental Mechanics, Keystone, CO, Nov. 2-5, 1986

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5551295
The conference presents papers on the NDE of composites, optical methods in composites, transducer applications, practical aspects of optics, symposium of surface-crack research, and strain gage. Topics include a holographic investigation of various stressing techniques for detecting flaws in composite laminates, applications of digital image correlation methodology to problems in composites, the influence of grid geometry on the output of strain-gage-based diaphragm pressure transducers, high sensitivity moire interferometry, and the effect of flaws on the strength of Si3N4. Consideration is also given to the role of video technology in experimental mechanics, fracture toughness testing of silicon carbide, and the propagation of a small surface crack in aluminum and steel alloys.
