The authors report on experimental results for the photoreduction of CO{sub 2} to formic acid. They demonstrate this process in nonaqueous polar solvents using oligo(p-phenylenes) (OPP-n) as a photocatalyst, with triethylamine as an electron donor. They study the reaction processes by means of flash photolysis and pulse radiolysis. The interest is in mimicing the carbon dioxide fixation which occurs in photosynthesis.
