lambda. -hypernuclei: Experiment and theory

An experimentalist's view is given of the present status and future outlook of the field of ..lambda..-hypernuclei. Recent experimental results from the Brookhaven National Laboratory on the (kappa/sup -/, ..pi../sup -/) formation reaction and on (kappa/sup -/, ..pi../sup -/ chi) coincidence experiments (chi = hypernuclear decay product) are reviewed. In addition, different current theoretical approaches are mentioned briefly. At the end, other reactions leading to the investigation of ..lambda..-hypernuclei are summarized.
