Improving performance of producer gas fueled engines

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5550405
A 2.8 L spark ignition and a similar 2.8 L compression ignition engine were operated on producer gas. The SI engine was turbocharged, supercharged and operated naturally aspirated. A significant increase in power output resulted from supercharging. The CI engine operated on producer gas with a pilot amount of fuel oil for ignition produced over 80% full diesel power. An automatic fuel mixture controller has been developed that operates from an exhaust O/sub 2/ sensor.
