The High Density Z-Pinch machine at Los Alamos produces a small (approx. 100-..mu..m radius), high density (approx. 10/sup 20/ cm/sup -3/) plasma, on a time scale of 10 to 100 ns. A useful diagnostic for this plasma is the Moire-Schlieren technique, using a fast-pulse nitrogen laser. This report describes a high-brightness, low jitter, low divergence laser system designed for this puprose using an oscillator-amplifier configuration.
