In the current quarterly technical progress report we present accomplishments and results in four areas: (1) progress made on the automated data acquisition system; (2) transient CO/sub 2/ gasification data obtained for Darco lignite char (PSOC No. 623) (These data represent the first obtained with the automated mass programming and data acquisition system developed for this project. From this data it is concluded that the apparent decrease in the ''effective'' active site concentration with increasing temperature, observed in our previous data, appears to be largely irreversible.); (3) the final version of the transient steam addition to be used for steam gasification studies; and (4) consideration of the possibility of multiple steady-states for steam gasification in a well-mixed reaction system. From this analysis it is concluded that the occurrence of this phenomenon for this system is unlikely. 3 refs., 16 figs., 1 tab.
