This paper describes a multi-step method for safe separation of combustible and/or explosive gaseous mixtures from aqueous solution. It comprises: separating entrained gases contained therein along with an effective amount of liquid phase; mixing the separated gas/entrained liquid mixture; reducing the pressure of the gas/entrained liquid mixture to ambient pressure; separating the entrained liquid phase component from the gaseous phase component; and diluting the gaseous phase component with a diluent gas.
