Effect of impurity interstitials on the lattice resistance to dislocation motion

A computer simulation model was developed to determine the nature of the synergistic effect between the lattice resistance and impurity interstitial atoms to dislocation motion. If the interaction between an impurity interstitial and a screw dislocation in a bcc lattice with a large Peierls barrier is treated in an elastic continuum manner, strengthening will occur. This strengthening occurs at all interstitial concentrations and at all temperatures in the low-temperature region.
