Charge separation by a nonlinear longitudinal wave in an electron plasma

The spatial distribution of the charge, averaged over the (temporal) period, is derived for a one-dimensional nonlinear standing plasma wave in a cold electron plasma. This charge is shown to be distributed inhomogeneously over space. The relationship between this inhomogeneity and the wave amplitude is found.
