The present study was stimulated by the report of a possible phase transformation in PrBr{sub 3} and NdBr{sub 3} from the PuBr{sub 3}-type orthorhombic structure to an unidentified structure, based on changes observed in their absorption and phonon Raman spectra with pressure. Energy dispersive X-ray diffraction experiments on NdBr{sub 3} showed a possible distortion of the known orthorhombic structure as high pressure but no change in crystal structure.
