Positivity conditions in some indefinite metric quantum field theory models

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5542842

Three indefinite metric quantum field theory models are studied. The indefinite metric character of each model is due to the fact that the free massless scalar field in two-dimensional space-time must be realized on an indefinite metric vector space. Positivity conditions are proven for each model. For the first model, the exponential of the free massless scalar field, a positivity result is obtained for a special combination of these fields. The positive definite conditions for the Schroer model are proven next. Finally, a direct proof that Klaiber's vacuum expectation values for the Thirring model satisfy the positive definite conditions is given.
