This patent describes a nuclear containment composition resulting from the solidification of a melt of a lead phosphate glass consisting essentially of, in weight percent, 45--66% PbO, 34--55 P{sub 2}O{sub 5}, a radioactive metal oxide mixture incorporated in the glass, and an effective corrosion-inhibiting concentration up to 9% Fe{sub 2}O{sub 3} incorporated in the glass, based on the total weight of the composition.
