Angular distribution of Xe 5s. -->. epsilonp photoelectrons near the Cooper minimum

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)

Angular distributions of Xe 5s ..-->.. epsilonp photoelectrons were measured at energies near the Cooper minimum, using pulsed synchrotron radiation and a time-of-flight photoelectron spectrometer. The asymmetry parameters ..beta../sub 5s/ differ markedly from the nonrelativistic value of 2, particularly near the Cooper minimum, in agreement with theoretical models based on jj coupling. Comparison to recent relativistic calculations confirms the relativistic random-phase approximation model of Johnson and Cheng, establishing the importance of interchannel coupling in the 5s ..-->.. epsilonp photoionization process.
