Resonances in /sup 12/C+/sup 12/C inelastic scattering to the 0/sup +//sub 2/, 3/sup -//sub 1/, and 4/sup +//sub 1/ states

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Excitation functions for /sup 12/C+/sup 12/C inelastic scattering to the 0/sup +//sub 2/, 3/sup -//sub 1/, and 4/sup +//sub 1/ levels have been measured over the energy range of the gross structure resonances seen in the single and mutual 2/sup +//sub 1/ inelastic scattering channels. Resonant structure is observed which is similar to, but more fragmented than, that in the low lying channels. The general features of the results are in agreement with the band crossing model of the /sup 12/C+/sup 12/C interaction, but detailed comparison indicates some serious discrepancies. Particularly, a strong resonance in the 0/sup +//sub 2/ channel violates the band crossing hypothesis.
