A new factorization theorem for the decay rates of P-wave charmonium states is presented. Infrared divergences encountered in previous perturbative calculations of P-wave decays are avoided by taking into account the annihilation of the charmed quark and antiquark in a color-octet S-wave state. Using recent precision measurements of the total width of the [chi][sub c1] and [chi][sub c2] states as inputs, we predict all the remaining light-hadronic and electromagnetic decay rates of the P-wave charmonium states.
