Modern inhibitor programs for modern petroleum production systems

Conference · · Am. Pet. Inst., Publ.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5540595
Commercially available inhibitors for petroleum production systems are largely derived from a limited number of raw materials from the production of amines and natural-product carboxylic acids. Oxyalkylation is a frequently used modification. Discussed are the following: (1) batch treatment of pumping wells; (2) batch treatment of gas wells; (3) variations of the batch treatment; (4) continuous treatment for oil wells; (5) continuous treatments for gas wells; (6) inhibitor treatments for waterfloods; and (7) inhibition of corrosion in natural gas pipelines. In choosing an inhibitor compositon for production systems, the inhibitor characteristic of the compound is only one of the many necessary properties. Solubility, dispersibility, thermal stability, and solvent compatability are dominant factors in choosing compounds for control of corrosion in oil wells, gas wells, gathering sytems, and waterfloods.
