Title: Formation of weakly excited compound nuclei and the possibility of synthesizing heavy and superheavy elements

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Nucl. Phys. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5539017

The possible formation of weakly excited compound nuclei in the sub-barrier complete fusion of an ion with a target nucleus is considered as a method of synthesizing heavy and superheavy elements. The experimental cross sections of the reactions (HI,1n) and (HI,2n) are analyzed for the purpose of obtaining information on nuclear fusion. The value of the shift between the effective fusion and inelastic-interaction barriers is determined. Reactions of heavy and superheavy element synthesis accompanied by the emission of a small number of neutrons from weakly excited compound nuclei are selected.
