Hazardous waste incineration research at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. [Transuranic wastes, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and pentachlorophenol (PCP)]

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5538845
An incineration system, originally demonstrated as a transuranic (TRU) waste volume-reduction process, is described. The production-scale controlled air incinerator using commercially available equipment and technology was modified for solid radioactive waste service. The same incinerator and offgas treatment system has been modified further for use in evaluating the destruction of hazardous liquid wastes such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and hazardous solid wastes wuch as pentachlorophenol (PCP)-treated wood. An incineration test of PCP-treated wood is described.
