Flue gas desulfurization pilot study. phase I. Survey of major installations. Appendix 95-i. Magnesium oxide flue gas desulfurization process

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5538649
Magnesium oxide flue gas desulfurization (FGD) is a regenerable process. The sulfur dioxide (SO2) in the flue gas is absorbed by a magnesium-based slurry, and the resulting magnesium sulfite (MgSO3) is calcined to regenerate magnesium oxide (MgO), which is recycled back to the power plant for reuse in the scrubbing section. The sulfur value from the SO2-rich by-product gas is recovered.
