This paper proposes methods for optimizing geophysical survey procedures and analysis in the engineering geology assessment of various sites for hydroelectric power plants. It also reviews the past performance of the All-Union Planning, Surveying, and Scientific-Research Institute of the Soviet Union during surveys and construction of large-scale hydroelectric plants and outlines and discusses new procedures for geophysical site monitoring during construction. Heavy emphasis is placed on seismic techniques.
