Mapco is ready to tap the gas bonanza in the overthrust belt

Mapco Inc.'s planned 791 mi Rocky Mountain 10 and 12 in. LPG pipeline and gathering system will connect its Mid-America pipeline system with newly discovered Overthrust Belt fields in Wyoming and Utah. Startup is scheduled for 1981 with a 10,000 bbl/day rate increasing to 60,000 bbl/day in 1985. It will tap into several new plants. The line will carry demethanized mix to Texas, where it will be split, part of the propane moving to Upper Midwest, and ethane/propane mix and other fractions goinf to gulf coast refineries and chemical plants. Mapco is also exploring for oil in Fiji and plans an alcohol fuels plant in Texas. Other companies involved in transporting liquids from the natural gas sources in this area, in projects such as the Trailblazer gas line, are: Amoco, Champlin, Chevron, Northwest Pipeline, Colorado Interstate, and Cities Service. At present, available volumes are being moved by truck and tank car.
