Final battery evaluation report : Energy Research Corporation zinc/bromine battery
The results of an evaluation of an Energy Research Corporation zinc/bromine, flowing electrolyte battery are described. This work was performed at Sandia National Laboratories for the US Department of Energy and the Electric Power Research Institute. Included in the report is a description of the battery, charge/discharge cycle test results, failure analysis investigations, and conclusions summarizing what was learned from the evaluation. Extensive appendices are included with detailed descriptions, data, and failure analyses photographs. The battery operated for 163 charge/discharge cycles with an average electrochemical energy efficiency of 54 +- 10%. The primary causes of failure were electrode de-bonding from flow frame assemblies and non-uniform electrolyte flow distribution.
