Ternary trialuminides, such as Al{sub 3}Zr, with a low symmetry, tetragonal DO{sub 23} crystal structure, can be transformed into the high-symmetry, ordered face centered cubic structure (L1{sub 2}) by appropriate alloying. It was first shown by Schubert et al that alloying with Ni and Cu results in the L1{sub 2} Al{sub 5}NiZr{sub 2} and Al{sub 5}CuZr{sub 2} intermetallic alloys, respectively. Recently, it has been shown that L1{sub 2} Al{sub 5}CuZr{sub 2} with low porosity and a small amount of second phase, as well as a new cubic modification with Mn, can be successfully produced by induction melting. The purpose of the present paper is to report observations of the temperature dependence of the compressive strength for the Cu and Mn modifications as well as for the Cr modification (Al{sub 67}Cr{sub 8}Zr{sub 25}) with the L1{sub 2} structure while has also been successfully cast in our laboratory. The mechanical properties of these intermetallic alloys have never been reported in literature.
