This paper establishes the formal equivalence of a bosonized Dirac fermion (the Wess-Zumino-Witten model) to two bosonized Weyl fermions (Sonnenschein's chiral bosons) in the path integral framework. These two systems can be regarded as gauge-fixed systems of the same gauge-invariant theory. Factorization of the fermion determinant of QCD{sub 2} is naturally realized in terms of chiral bosonization, up to a contact term which is necessary for maintaining gauge invariance. Canonical quantization of the gauge-invariantly extended system is performed.
