Pool boiling from downward-facing hemispherical surfaces is of interest in assessing the coolability of the pressure vessel lower head of an advanced light water reactor following a core meltdown accident. Experimental investigations have been carried out using small-sized test sections, which focused on boiling fundamentals, and large-size test sections.
