A new semiclassical method for calculation of one-electron matrix elements is tested by comparison with exact results on nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. The method is found to be good to 10% for a variety of cases including dipole matrix elements for bound-bound (line) and photoelectric transitions of electrons in hydrogenic and non-hydrogenic atomic potentials. When applied to radiative transitions, the method gives a vivid initiative picture and provides a more precise understanding of the relation between quantum and classical results.
