Neutron activation analysis (NAA) is an excellent technique for multielemental analysis with detection limits in the parts-per-billion range. One of the few problems associated with NAA is neutron self-shielding. Neutrons are removed by absorption, causing the neutron flux to decrease inside an irradiated sample, thus leading to erroneous underestimated results, particularly for elements that have high cross sections.
