Industrial cogeneration case study No. 5: California and Hawaiian sugar refinery, Crockett, California

A case study of the cogeneration operation at the C and H (California and Hawaii) Sugar Company refinery at Crockett, California is presented. The methodology used for selecting the study site is described. Chapter 2 describes the C and H refinery and discusses how its on-site electric generation evolved to its current state. Chapter 3 describes and discusses the cogeneration plant at the Crockett refinery, and Chapter 4 provides an evaluation of the energy use characteristics and economics of the C and H cogeneration operation. The evaluation is performed by comparing the economics and energy use characteristics of on-site cogenerated electric power with the economics and energy use characteristics of electric utility provided power which would be required in the absence of on-site generation.
