Semiconductor laser device with light emission inhibiting means

This patent describes a semiconductor laser device. The device consists of: a semiconductor laser; a light quantity monitor circuit for monitoring the quantity of light emitted from the semiconductor laser, and for outputting a signal corresponding to the quantity of light emitted from the lase; A/D converting means for converting the signal output from the light quantity monitor circuit into a digital quantity and for providing a digital output; control means for controlling the digital quantity so that the digital output of the A/D converting means is within a predetermined range; D/A converting means for converting the output of the control means into an analog signal; current generating means for supplying the semiconductor laser with a predetermined driving current in accordance with the analog signal; and means for comparing the quantity of light emitted from the laser with a predetermined value.
