Evaluation of RELAP/MOD3.1 to SPES-2 experiments

Conference ·

The present paper deals with an overview of the results achieved from the application of Relap5/Mod3.1 to tests performed in the SPES-2 facility. SPES-2 is an experimental simulator of the AP-600 Westinghouse plant and Relap5/Mod3.1 was the latest released version of Relap5 at the time of the analysis. Among the various phenomena that are relevant in the AP-600 reactor, attention is focused here to the CMT (Core Make-up Tank) behaviour. It is found that the calculation results show a satisfactory qualitative agreement with measured phenomena. Quantitative agreement is also judged as satisfactory. The last conclusion must be seen considering the need for optimizing the nodalization and user choices, and the lack of phenomena like dryout in the experimental data base which usually challenge the weak points of the code. 18 refs., 16 figs., 2 tabs.
