Inclusive strange-particle production in single-vee events in 200-GeV/c-italic. pi. /sup -/N interactions

For the reaction ..pi../sup -/N..-->..V/sup 0/X, where V-italic/sup 0/ is a K-italic/sub s-italic//sup 0/, ..lambda.., and Lambda-bar and X-italic are charged particles, we measured the transverse- and longitudinal-momentum distributions, and inclusive cross sections for the V-italic/sup 0/ and for K-italic/sup *//sup +- /(892), ..sigma../sup +- /(1385), and ..gamma../sup +- /(1321). We compare our results with predictions of quark-counting rules, and conclude that valence quarks play an important role in strange-particle production.
