MOX fuel designs to decrease void reactivity in Indian PHWRs

Conference ·
OSTI ID:552137
In this paper, the effect of plutonium enrichment on void reactivity for a 19 rod and a 37 rod fuel cluster in an Indian pressure tube type HWR (PHWR) has been studied. The fuel is in the form of a Mixed Oxide (MOX) of UO{sub 2} and PuO{sub 2}. It was seen in general that, void reactivity in mk compared to natural UO{sub 2} fuel gets reduced with increase in Pu enrichment, uniformly or differentially in all the rings. But the maximum bundle power that can be achieved gets reduced because of the increased power peaking in the cluster, compared to a natural UO{sub 2} fuel cluster. These studies were done with the lattice analysis code CLUB. 6 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.
