Interaction of forces in an Einstein-Maxwell field admitting Wooley's Killing tensor
Wooley has shown that when a source-free Einstein-Maxwell space-time admits a Killing vector xi/sub ..mu../ which generates the invariance group of the electromagnetic field tensor F/sub munu/, then it is possible to derive a purely geometric form of Einstein's equations, which depends only on the metric tensor and the Killing vector. Through a transformation of the field variables, these geometric equations may be shown to generate a field f/sub munu/, which has a nonvanishing current density, and which corresponds to a distributed charge in equilibrium with the gravitational field. In a limited case, in which the Killing vector is hypersurface-orthogonal, the field f/sub munu/ is proportional to the Killing tensor xi/sub / itself. Various interpretations are suggested, including one which relates to the nature of the binding stresses of fundamental charged particles.
