In the first part of this paper, recent results on helium single and double ionization for GeV/u highly charged ion impact are reported. Using novel techniques for recoil-ion momentum spectroscopy (RIMS) which enable the determination of meV recoil-ion energies, double and triple differential single ionization cross sections have been measured for (0.3--3) MeV p- He collisions and are presented in the second part. In the third part, recoil-ion momentum spectroscopy is shown to provide a unique possibility to determine explicitly the sum momentum of emitted electrons in a multiple ionization reaction. First results for helium double ionization by protons and multiple ionization of Ne by F[sup 8+] ions are discussed.
