Use of glow discharge techniques to improve the environmental resistance and lubricity of elastomers for use in deep sour gas wells

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5517613

An ethylene/propylene elastomer treated with TFE and argon, separately, in a glow discharge exhibited improved environmental resistance to sour gas and steam at 275/sup 0/C at ambient pressures. Enhanced lubricity and wear of Buna N O-rings was achieved with glow discharge polymerized TFE. In this case, a polymeric fluorocarbon coating was deposited on the surface of the rubber.
