The extremely low water solubility and vapor pressure of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) cause it to be a very persistent soil contaminant. TCDD transport may occur when an organic phase provides a transportation medium, but mathematical description of this migration is not possible without a value for TCDD diffusivity in the organic solvent. In this work, the Taylor dispersion technique was used to measure the diffusivities of TCDD in several organic solvents. The results are reproducible and tend to be somewhat different from diffusivity estimates based on the Wilke-Chang correlation.
