The multiprocessor revolution: Harnessing computers together

Journal Article · · Technol. Rev.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5516670

This article reviews the state-of-the art of multiprocessing systems (sometimes called a parallel-or concurrent processor system). The author discusses multiprocessor architectures as well as programming multiprocessors. Stress is also given to the issue of reliability. Attention is also paid to the global race in multiprocessors. The author believes that by skewing research toward immediate military objectives, the U.S. may cede leadership to the Japanese. It is stated that the best design of a new multiprocessor system may be achieved by simulating it first on a computer.
