Three Mile Island: one year later. Energy report No. 2
The accident triggered major investigations by the Administration, the Congress, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, focusing widespread public attention for the first time on the issues of nuclear safety, regulation and radiological emergency response. Today, nearly one year after the accident, several major studies of the accident are complete; thus the time seems right to review the incident at Three Mile Island and its implications for the future use of nuclear power and other energy sources. This paper will review responses by the Kemeny Commission, the Congress, the nuclear industry and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and examine the main energy policy issues pertinent to state governments.
