Differential cross sections for collisional electron detachment from H/sup -/

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. A; (United States)
An earlier Born-approximation calculation of collisional electron detachment from H/sup -/ is extended with the use of improved bound- and free-state H/sup -/ wave functions. Present results confirm the previous conclusion (T. C. Genoni and L. A. Wright, J. Phys. B 13, 461 (1980)) that the difference between the resultant atom motion and the center-of-mass motion of the outgoing ion complex (H+e) cannot, in general, be ignored. In addition, differential cross sections calculated using closure and an average--momentum-transfer approximation are shown to be in excellent agreement with calculations employing an explicit summation over final target-atom states.
