Economy and OPEC: shadows in the 1982 energy picture

Journal Article · · Energy Manage. (Cleveland, Ohio); (United States)
OSTI ID:5512985
The economy, which determines the level of services demand and the investment climate, and OPEC policies will continue to dominate oil prices and affect the prices of other energy sources during 1982. Data Resources, Inc. (DRI) data show the recession continuing into the second half of the year, when a slow recovery could bring a better year in 1983. DRI's analysis of world oil markets indicates available demand for 1982 and a gradual increase in both OPEC and non-OPEC productions. OPEC, and Saudi Arabia in particular, want to dominate oil prices until they have achieved self-sustaining economies based on non-oil revenues, but this may not be possible if world demand remains low unless real prices can be kept constant. 4 tables.
