The process wherein globular clusters are disrupted by internal relaxation and the tidal forces of the Galaxy is considered. Clusters of mass M< or =10/sup 5/ M/sub sun/ will decay efficiently and those with M< or =10/sup 4/ M/sub sun/ will be completely destroyed, regardless of their location in the Galaxy. Certain properties of the mass function of globular clusters are thereby explained, as well as their space distribution in the central part of the Galaxy and the dependence of their degree of concentration on mass.
