This communication presents the results of fluorescence lifetime measurements of 5 isotopic anthracenes. Apparently, the inverse isotope effect on the 0/sup 0/ fluorescence bears no simple relationship to the number of deuteriums in the molecule. A qualitative explanation of the nature of the inverse isotope effects on the intersystem crossing is presented. 1 figure.
