3. omega. /sub 0//2 harmonic emission from thin foils

Journal Article · · Phys. Fluids; (United States)
OSTI ID:5510142
Temporally and spectrally resolved 3..omega../sub 0//2 harmonic emission has been recorded from 1.05 ..mu..m laser-irradiated thin foil targets which become underdense during the laser pulse of 600--900 psec. Changes in the spectra of both the backscattered and forward scattered harmonic light are observed coincident with the disappearance of the n/sub c/ surface. The results are analyzed by considering the matching conditions for the generation of the 3..omega../sub 0//2 light, including the effects of plasma wave refraction in the inhomogeneous plasma.
