The reactions Na-23(p, alpha) and Na-23(p, gamma)Mg-24 have been investigated at proton energies of Ep less than or equal to 350 keV. A new resonance was observed for the (p, alpha) reaction at Ep = 227 keV, and upper limits have been determined for the strength of the expected Ep = 144 keV resonance in both reactions. Possible changes in the ratio of the rates of the two reactions and their implication for the hydrogen burning in the NeNa cycle at temperatures of T9 of less than or equal to 0.3 are discussed. 22 refs.
