Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5504852
The Big Bend Level B Study Report presents the results of a comprehensive, reconnaissance study of water and related land resources in the Big Bend Basin. The 1975 population of the five-county area was 109,200. The economy of the area is based largely on agriculture with irrigated and dryland farming the major activities. The climate of the basin is characterized by low average annual precipitation, high summer temperatures, mild winters, and strong winds. Natural vegetation is strongly influenced by the basin's aridity. The study addresses existing and anticipated problems and needs related to irrigation, flood damage reduction, water quality management, recreation, fish and wildlife, power, and municipal and industrial water supply. The planning horizon of the study was the year 2000.
