Magnetic measurements have been performed on polycrystalline samples of Y{sub 1{minus}x}Pr{sub x}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) before and after irradiation with 12 MeV protons. While magnetic hysteresis measurements reveal that the critical current density J{sub c} increases for all the samples after irradiation, magnetic relaxation measurements show that the effective pinning energy U{sub eff} increases only for the samples with x{le}0.1 and actually decreases for the samples with x{ge}0.2. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
