First-wall and vacuum vessel analysis for Compact Ignition Tokamaks
This paper describes the VV/FW analysis efforts that have been performed. It addresses both thermal and electromagnetic loadings as well as cooldown between the pulses. The studied VV/FW concept is the further development of a TRW VV/FW design for the LITE tokamak. The VV is a continuous resistive single-wall welded shell (without resistive bellows and mechanical joints). It can be supported from the TF coil in the outboard region near the machine midplane. The FW is formed by graphite tiles. Each tile has single-point mechanical attachment to the VV wall. The attachment serves as a conductive link from the tile to the VV wall, which allows tile cooling by heat removal from the wall. The entire VV wall inboard section is used as a bumper limiter to reduce average and peak heat loads. Similar tiles are also provided in the outboard section. Parametric studies of the FW and VV heating as a function of tile and VV thicknesses and thermal loading have been performed. Both alpha and nuclear heating were considered.
